			Getting Around in Magnetic Island

Getting There
Magnetic Island is situated just eight kilometres from mainland Townsville, the nearest Queensland town and it will take you just twenty minutes to get to the island by ferry from the mainland. Magnetic Island Ferries have been operating for just over a year and they operate two fast catamarans. They also operate a thirty year old ferry, the first to operate in the area. This only runs on Wednesday and Thursday but in all there are thirteen daily services to the island so you shouldn’t have a problem getting there. They depart from the Great Barrier Reef Wonderland. Sunferries also operate about ten daily crossings and they leave from the Sunferries City Terminal on Flinders Street East.

Getting Around
Once you make it to the island, making your way around couldn’t be easier. You can hire a scooter or a moke at Holiday Moke Hire based in the Jetty Café in the Picnic Bay mall or in Roadrunner Scooter Hire which has an office in an arcade off the same mall. Or, if you would prefer something without an engine, there are also several places to hire a regular mountain bike and the island is ideal for cycling.

The other alternative is the Magnetic Island Bus Service which operates between Picnic Bay and Horseshoe Bay. This runs up to twenty times a day and meets all the ferries coming from the mainland as well as stopping at all places of accommodation along the way.
